Enrolled Agents – How They Can Help with IRS/State Tax Problems
If you’re dealing with the IRS or State tax controversy, you don’t have to figure it out on your own. I will focus mostly on the IRS in the FAQ, but many of the same processed and procedures apply to State tax agencies.
I’m an Enrolled Agent (EA), a tax professional who is federally licensed by the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Unlike many accounting professionals, Enrolled Agents specialize exclusively in tax matters. To become an EA, candidates must pass a comprehensive three-part examination covering individual and business tax law, IRS representation, and ethics, or qualify through extensive technical experience working for the IRS. Enrolled Agents are also required to complete continuing education courses each year to stay current with the ever-changing tax laws.
Many people are familiar with accountants, who often provide a broad range of accounting, auditing, financial planning, and tax services. An Enrolled Agent’s practice, however, focuses entirely on tax matters and representing taxpayers before the IRS (as well as the FTB, and other state tax agencies). That specialized focus can be especially valuable when you’re facing IRS or State tax notices, audits, back taxes, or collection actions.
Whether you’ve received a letter from the IRS, owe back taxes, have unfiled returns, or are worried about wage garnishments or bank levies, I’ll take the time to understand your situation, explain your options in plain language, and help you choose the best path forward. If you hire me, I’ll communicate with the IRS on your behalf, so you don’t have to navigate the process alone.
My first step is to listen. Every tax situation is different, so I’ll take the time to understand yours, explain your options in plain language, and help you choose the best path forward. If you retain me, I’ll communicate with the IRS on your behalf, so you don’t have to handle those stressful conversations alone.
I can help with:
- IRS notices and letters
- Back taxes and unfiled tax returns
- Installment agreements and payment options
- Offer in Compromise (OIC)
- Penalty relief requests
- IRS audits and appeals
- Wage garnishments
- Bank levies
- Federal (and state) tax liens
- Other collection issues
My goal is simple: to help you resolve your tax problems as efficiently as possible while treating you with honesty, respect, and compassion. Many people feel overwhelmed when they hear from the IRS, but there are most often workable solutions available. Together, we’ll work toward getting your tax matters resolved so you can move forward with greater peace of mind.
